Set Up eM Client
Recommended for mailcow Groupware
We recommend using this client in combination with our mailcow Groupware for a smooth experience and stress-free emailing.
What is eM Client?¶
eM Client is a versatile email client for Windows, macOS, Android, and Apple iOS, characterized by a user-friendly interface and comprehensive features. In addition to sending and receiving emails, eM Client also supports calendars, contacts, tasks, and chat. It is suitable for both private users and businesses looking for an alternative to Outlook or Thunderbird. Thanks to support for protocols like IMAP, SMTP, and CardDAV/CalDAV, it can be easily integrated with various email servers.
A standout feature is the plug-and-play compatibility1 with mailcow Groupware and SOGo: eM Client automatically detects the corresponding calendar and contact services, allowing them to be integrated with just one click – no ActiveSync required. Calendar integration works seamlessly and requires no additional configuration.
Desktop Setup Guide¶
- Launch eM Client.
- If you are starting eM Client for the first time, you will be prompted to set up your account. In this case, proceed directly to step 4.
- Click on
Menu
at the top, selectTools
, and thenAccounts
. - Enter your email address and click Start Now.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Enter your name and click Next.
- Click Finish.
Using the eM Client Mobile App (Android/iOS)¶
The eM Client app is also available for Android and iOS, offering a convenient way to access emails, calendars, and contacts on the go.
- Download the eM Client app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- Open the app and select
Add Account
. - Enter your email address and password.
- The app automatically detects the appropriate settings for mailcow/SOGo.
- Confirm the setup – your emails, calendars, and contacts will be automatically synchronized.
Note
On smartphones, calendar and contact synchronization also occurs via CardDAV and CalDAV – ActiveSync is not required.
Quick Smartphone Setup via QR Code Export
If you are already using the desktop version of eM Client, you can easily transfer your existing configuration to your smartphone:
eM Client offers the option to export the desktop profile as a QR code.
- Open eM Client on your desktop.
- Go to
Menu
→Accounts
. - Click on the QR code icon (QR Export) for the desired account.
- Scan the displayed code with the mobile app.
This will automatically transfer all account settings, including calendar and contact synchronization – no manual entry of server data required.
